Chasing The Mist

Chasing the Mist is an interactive, Choose Your Own Adventure story that is tailored by the choices and write-ins of the readers. It follows the story of two siblings who discover a portal to an alternate, magical dimension. Their choices and stories are 100% determined by you, the reader!

Be sure to check back often for new options/questions, or just add your email to be notified for updates!

NOTE: Please be aware that I will not include your write-in if it:

  1. Does not add to the story
  2. Is not possible within the limits of the story
  3. Is otherwise inappropriate

However, these guidelines are loose and subjective, so write whatever you would like!

About the Author

Hello, I am HF (they/them)! I am 23 and forever stuck in college because I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I've been a coding hobbyist for nearly 10 years, but this is my first time making a website from scratch! I'm already learning a whole bunch, and I'm excited to make it better and better.

I've also been creating stories for about 21 years. Yeah, you read that right, although "writing" as a toddler more consisted of blabbing to my family and scribbling in a tiny notebook! I still remember that first story though! I am a fantasy writer, and all of my works take place in my fictional universe called Equasia. I've been building it up for most of my life; it is my pride and joy. My projects also include queer themes because I am a queer person myself and want to write queer characters.

Oh yeah, and I draw sometimes too.

I consume a lot of media. Some of my favorites include: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (show), Rune Factory (especially RF4; video games), Stardew Valley (game), Pokémon (show and games), Digimon (show and games), A Court of Thorns and Roses (book series), Lies Within (webcomic), and novels by V.E. Schwab and TJ Klune.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why do you use a Google form?
I tried looking into letting people put responses directly into the website, but I am not sure if Neocities supports it. I am also not coding-savvy enough to figure out how, to be completely honest. Also, the form doubles as a place to give feedback on the story/site as well as put in your email if you want to be notified about updates! It's a nice thing to have, even if it's a bit awkward.

  2. Why do some choices loop?
Sometimes a choice provides extra information for the reader but does not actually impact the story. Since this is just a click through adventure and doesn't have any way to save small bits of information, I turn them more into detours for the reader to remember instead of the character themself.

  3. What kinds of responses can I give?
Preferably actions or dialogue prompts! You can also suggest for something to happen to the characters. I might not pick it up in that scene, but I also could!

  4. What rating will this story be?
I want it to be accesible to everyone, there will be swearing and violence, but nothing inappropriate.
