Arrested by blind panic, Estraeah grabs Klaus' arm and darts into the forest, leaving the path and weaving amongst the trees. She could feel Klaus trip and stumble behind her, but her grip was iron tight to his arm, ensuring he did not fall behind.
"What the fuck is that?" Klaus shouts, voice strained from fear and the running.
"I have no idea, but I want to be as far away from it as possible!" she responds.
As the pair run, the rumbling slowly gets softer and quieter, finally coming to a stop when Estraeah's feet hit pebbles.
Before them is a pool of water, perfectly round and about six feet across. The water is so still and clear that Estraeah can see the smooth pebbles at the bottom. Behind it is the dark opening of a cave.
Nearly doubled over, Klaus falls to his knees next to the pond and splashes water on his face.
The sight is utterly unfamiliar to Estraeah. She supposes it could be the origin of the sounds she heard before, but she sees no people. The rumbling, she notices, have stopped, but it would be a waste to go back after this new discovery.
